It seems that lately more and more young people have taken up smoking or drinking and for what? Every day, nearly 3,000 young people under the age of 18 become regular smokers and over half (55 per cent) of pupils had drunk at least one alcoholic drink in their lifetimes, while 45 per cent said they had never had a proper alcoholic drink. The proportion who have never drunk alcohol has risen since 2003 (39 per cent)
Drinking and smoking at such a young age is incredibly dangerous but yet more and more people do it, is it to fit in or to seem "cool"?
Drinking : It's fine to have the occasional drink when at a party or with friends and family, but when it starts gettin out of hand, thats when it harms you. The brain continues developing into our early 20's so drinking a lot at such a young age can seriously effect your mind aswell as other vital organs in your body.
Smoking: Smoking is dangerous for anyone, especially teens. When smoking at an earlier age it can seriously affect you, both on the outside and on the inside. When being a teen you want to obviously look your best and try your hardest to keep up your appearance but smoking can affect this. It affects men and women in different ways, such as:
Women: - Reduced fertility
- Menstrual cycle irregularities or absence of menstruation
- Increased risk of cancer of the cervix
Men:
- Lower sperm count
- Higher percentage of deformed sperm
Smoking can discolour teeth, increase skin aging and hair loss. Noboy wants this to happen, but then it can be hard to resist temptation but just remember those things.
